I’ve never had a blogspot, but it sounds extremely similar to an online diary. I’ve never had a diary either, but I use to read yours so I think I will get the gist of things..
The intention of this blog is to document my semester abroad in Toledo, Spain. It will be used as a spot to record the interesting restaurants, museums, and cities I visit. It will also be a nice vent for all of the thoughts I can’t express in Spanish.
I am nine days away from my departure date (January 13, 2010), and thought it would be a good idea to make one post before I skip over the pond and find myself in a flurry of fast-talking, dark-haired, Spanish chaos.
I’ve been far more relaxed about the trip then I could have imagined, but I’ve still had my worries. As a 6’5, blonde-haired, goofy looking American, I will stick out like a soar thumb; making me a likely target for petty theft inside the walls of Toledo. I’m thinking about inventing a pair of pants with padlocks on each of the pockets (obviously, you wouldn’t be able to workout in them) to protect myself against the sticky-fingered Spanish criminals. Other than important lost or stolen items, my only other concern lies with the language barrier. I’m sure it will be extremely apparent when I first arrive, but hopefully it will vanish quickly. Assimilating into a different culture is always challenging and can be frustrating, but I am going into it with a clear head and an open mind because as different as the culture may seem, we all still wake up with bad breath in the morning...
This will probably be my only post until boredom sets in at the airport. Then, once I'm in Spain, posts will come on a regular basis.. with pictures too!
